  • 2 packets unflavored gelatin For a firmer texture
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For dusting
  • food coloring Red and blue for vibrant colors
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice Enhances flavor

Equipment

  • Large Saucepan
  • Shallow baking dish or silicone molds
  • Cooking spray

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large saucepan, combine the flavored gelatin, unflavored gelatin, and 1 cup of water. Stir until the gelatins are dissolved.
  2. Step 2: Place the saucepan over medium heat and add the corn syrup and granulated sugar. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  3. Step 3: Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, continuing to stir frequently. Remove from heat.
  4. Step 4: Divide the mixture into three separate bowls. Add red food coloring to one bowl, blue to the second, and leave the third bowl white (you can add a few drops of lemon juice for flavor). Stir each bowl until the colors are well incorporated.
  5. Step 5: Grease a shallow baking dish or silicone molds with cooking spray. Pour the red mixture into one section, the blue into another, and leave the white section empty or fill it with the uncolored mixture.
  6. Step 6: Cover and refrigerate the molds for at least 4 hours or until set.
  7. Step 7: Once set, remove from the molds and cut into small squares or desired shapes.
  8. Step 8: Roll each gumdrop in powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
  9. Step 9: Arrange on a festive plate and serve at your 4th of July celebration!
