- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Step 2: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Stir until well combined.
- Step 3: Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Step 4: Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Step 5: In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and hot water until the sugar dissolves.
- Step 6: Carefully pour the brown sugar mixture over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir - this is where the magic happens!
- Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 8: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally topped with ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate treat.
Notes
If by some miracle you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply pop it in the microwave for a few seconds until warm. Enjoy it with a little extra ice cream on top for a quick dessert fix!
