Ingredients

For the Chicken
  • 2 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk for marinating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for coating
  • 1 teaspoon paprika for seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat
For Frying
  • Vegetable oil for frying approximately 1/2 inch in the skillet
For Assembly
  • 4 pieces burger buns your choice of soft or toasted

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Meat Thermometer

Method

  1. Step 1: Marinate the chicken by soaking the chicken breasts in buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  2. Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir to combine.
  3. Step 3: Dredge the marinated chicken in the flour mixture, pressing lightly for an even coating. Shake off excess flour.
  4. Step 4: In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
  5. Step 5: Fry the chicken breasts for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. Step 6: Assemble the sandwich by toasting the buns (optional), spreading mayonnaise on the bottom half, adding fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Cap with the top half of the bun.
  7. Step 7: Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat chicken in the oven or air fryer for best results.
