Method
- Step 1: Marinate the chicken by soaking the chicken breasts in buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir to combine.
- Step 3: Dredge the marinated chicken in the flour mixture, pressing lightly for an even coating. Shake off excess flour.
- Step 4: In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C).
- Step 5: Fry the chicken breasts for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Step 6: Assemble the sandwich by toasting the buns (optional), spreading mayonnaise on the bottom half, adding fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Cap with the top half of the bun.
- Step 7: Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
Store leftovers separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat chicken in the oven or air fryer for best results.
