Method
- Step 1: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
- Step 2: Gradually add the whole milk to the dry mixture while whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
- Step 3: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and starts to bubble, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Step 4: Once the pudding has thickened, remove it from the heat. Add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Step 5: Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- Step 6: Once chilled, serve the dark chocolate pudding with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
Notes
Your homemade dark chocolate pudding can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Just make sure to keep it covered tightly to prevent it from absorbing any odors from the fridge!
