Course: Condiment, Snack
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cucumbers sliced
  • 1-2 Habanero Peppers sliced
  • 4 cloves Garlic smashed
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup White Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Dill Seeds optional

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Sterilized Jars

Method

  1. Step 1: Wash the cucumbers thoroughly. Slice them into your desired shape (rounds, spears, or halves).
  2. Step 2: Sterilize your jars and lids by boiling them in water or running them through the dishwasher.
  3. Step 3: In the sterilized jars, layer the cucumber slices, sliced habanero peppers, and smashed garlic cloves. Leave some space at the top.
  4. Step 4: In a medium saucepan, combine water, white vinegar, sugar, salt, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, and dill seeds (if using). Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar and salt dissolve.
  5. Step 5: Once the brine is boiling, carefully pour it over the packed cucumbers in the jars, ensuring that the cucumbers are fully submerged. Leave about half an inch of headspace at the top.
  6. Step 6: Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean cloth to remove any residue. Place the lids on the jars and tighten the bands until they are just snug.
  7. Step 7: Allow the jars to cool to room temperature before placing them in the refrigerator. Let the pickles sit for at least 24 hours before consuming for the best flavor.
  8. Step 8: Store the pickles in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Enjoy!

Notes

Make sure your jars are properly sterilized to prevent spoilage. Letting the pickles sit for a few days will enhance the flavor even more!
