Method
- Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, stirring occasionally, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Step 2: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Step 3: Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Step 4: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the slices of bread on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Step 5: Remove the toasted bread from the oven. Spoon the meat mixture generously over each slice of toast.
- Step 6: Top each open-faced Sloppy Joe with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Step 7: Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Step 8: Remove from the oven, garnish with chopped fresh parsley, and serve immediately.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Simply reheat in the microwave or oven when you're ready for round two.
