Method
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Step 2: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Stir until well combined.
- Step 4: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until fully incorporated.
- Step 5: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 6: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the brownies tough.
- Step 7: If you're using them, fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Step 8: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
- Step 9: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. Then, lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
To keep your brownies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep them longer, you can refrigerate them for about a week or freeze them for up to 3 months. Just make sure to wrap them tightly to prevent freezer burn!
